Lighting is a Bright Idea

Updated: Mar 15, 2021

Lighting is one of the most useful, beautiful and impactful changes you can make to a home. Shhh.. it also does not have to cost a fortune. New lighting can give your home an instant update. Light + Electrician = Design Magic. If you 're selling your home, it can also mean a faster sale for top dollar.

As a home stager and interior designer I love to recommend replacing lights and also adding more light when necessary. Light and bright sells. Outdated lighting makes a home look, well, outdated.

Here is one of my favorite lighting suggestions. Ban the "boob light". Replace them for a much needed updated look. You can replace them with flush mount or semi flush mount drum shades- which are super stylish or a chandelier for more whimsy. The options are limitless. These replacement lights can be under $100 if you shop wisely.

If you need help figuring out new lighting for your space, we're happy to help! House Candy Home offers Shoppable Mood Boards for our interior design and our staging clients. It is so nice to see all the suggested lighting in once space and it makes shopping a breeze. Our clients are huge fans of this service. See below for a lighting mood board that was for a home that was staged and listed. There are also a couple photos of the lights installed. Stunning!

A new glass globe vanity light in the bathroom can make a space feel fresh and updated. The quartz counter, simple large mirror and a fresh coat of paint also went a long way to refresh this vintage bathroom.

Don't forget to update the ceiling fans too. Ceiling fans get a bad wrap on home design shows. They can be very important to create a comfortable climate in your space. Today's fan's come in all sorts of styles and colors. They even can offer lighting. Ceiling fans also probably don't cost as much as you think! When updating your fans, really think about if you need a fan where you have one. Just because a fan is hanging from your ceiling does not necessarily mean you need a fan in it's space. In the dining room below, we swapped out a dated fan for a chandelier.

Below are two fans with lighting. The white fan was meant to simply disappear in this space and the black fan matched all the updated hardware throughout a different home.

DESIGN. COLOR. STAGING. House Candy Home is passionate about design and making your space beautiful and functional whether you're living there, renting to vacationers or getting your home ready to sell for top dollar
